We’ve been fortunate to source our Malbec fruit from the Blau Vineyard since 2016 (Heidi Barrett, the old head winemaker of Screaming Eagle, a world renown winery, has also sourced fruit from this vineyard!). 2019 was the last year that we received Malbec from this vineyard which makes this vintage even more special. Blau Vineyard is located in Knights Valley; the region sits between the Mayacamas and Mount St Helena, keeping the valley from all coastal influences and making it one of the hottest regions in Sonoma. The elevation keeps the nights cool helping retain acidity and keep the wines balanced. Once the fruit arrived in Solana Beach, we destemmed and processed it here on site. The grapes then fermented in small batch macro bins which enabled us to use different complementary yeast strains that got blended at the press. After pressing, the wines were aged for 22 months in 30% new French Oak and 70% once used French Oak before being bottled in September 2021.
