Tasting Notes: Inspired by the traditional Tempranillos of Spain. Beautiful dark fruit notes of dark plum & blackberry, with secondary notes of tobacco, vanilla and cedar.
Food Pairing: Spanish-inspired dishes like grilled lamb, chorizo, paella, or smoky roasted vegetables. Pairs beautifully with braised short ribs, hearty stews, and aged Manchego or other firm cheeses.
Inspired by the traditional Tempranillos of Spain, this 2023 Lake County Tempranillo is a richer, more layered expression of the varietal. Native to Spain, Tempranillo is the country’s signature red grape and is best known for its role in the renowned wine regions of Rioja and Ribera del Duero. Sourced from Luchsinger Vineyards at 1,300 feet in elevation, the blend is 80% Tempranillo, 15% BDX, and 5% Cabernet Franc. The Tempranillo fruit comes from the same 2002-planted vineyard as our original 2023 Tempranillo, with young volcanic soils and generous gravel, silt, and loam contributing to its character. Once the fruit arrived in Oceanside, we destemmed and processed it here on site. After fermentation, the wine was aged for 32 months in a mix of American and French oak, with 20% new oak, allowing it extra time to develop depth, texture, and complexity before bottling.
