Sonoma Coast grows some of California’s highest scoring & most coveted cool-climate style wines (most notably Pinot Noir and Chardonnay). This AVA was created in 1987 and contains about 2,000 acres of vineyards and only 10 wineries. They get a direct, daily influence from the Pacific Ocean that truly defines the appellation. This is the third time we’ve sourced Pinot Noir from the Rancho Bella Vista Vineyard and are very happy with the results. The vineyard, which has been family owned since the early 1900s, is located in a valley that allows cool wind & fog, resulting in ripe flavors & high acidity.
Vintners across California celebrated the 2023 vintage as exceptional. The 2022-2023 winter provided record breaking rainfall, which revitalized the soils and encouraged healthy canopies. A cooler Spring & Summer meant harvest started later than usual, but allowed the grapes to develop gradually. Once the Pinot Noir fruit arrived in Oceanside, we destemmed and processed it here on site. The grapes then fermented for about 2 weeks. After pressing, the wine was aged for 10 months in 25% new French Oak and 75% once used French Oak before being bottled in September 2024.
